Christ-centered adventure for boys 5 to 12 — and for the fathers who come with them.

01

What this is

Trail Life USA is a church-based, Christ-centered, boy-focused program. Boys earn badges, learn real skills, and spend as much time outdoors as the weather allows. Troop FL-0202 is the Tallahassee troop.

We take boys ages 5 to 12. That is the whole of Woodlands Trail, ages 5 to 10, plus our oldest boys starting into Navigators, which runs 11 to 13. A boy joins the level that fits his age and moves up from there.

It is run by men who are raising sons of their own, and it exists for one reason: a boy cannot learn to be a man without a man to show him.

On my honor, I will do my best to serve God and my country; to respect authority; to be a good steward of creation; and to treat others as I want to be treated.

The Trailman's Oath
Our troop verse
I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, 1 Kings 2:2  ·  ESV

A father said that to his son. We chose it on purpose. This troop is not a place to drop a boy off for two hours — it is built for the men raising them just as much as it is built for the boys.

The rhythm

First Friday of the month

Badge
work

One skill, one award, one man leading it. Stars and planets, national symbols, service, firearm safety, weather, geology — a different subject every month, taught by someone who actually knows it.

Once more each month

Patrol

The second gathering. We go somewhere and use what we learned — the Capitol, a planetarium, a cavern, a battleship, a range, a trail. We have built trebuchets and launched pumpkins with them. The date moves month to month.

Two gatherings a month. That is the whole ask on your calendar.

03

Dads come too

We ask our fathers to register with Trail Life USA alongside their sons.

That means you are a member in your own right, not a visitor signing in at the door. You wear the same shirt he does and you take the same oath he does. When your son learns to build a fire, you are the one kneeling in the dirt next to him.

Work happens. Shifts happen. Attendance flexes and nobody keeps a scorecard. Registration is what we ask for, because it means that on any given night the men in the room are known, trained, and accounted for.

If a boy's father cannot be there, a grandfather, an uncle, or one of our men stands in. No boy walks in alone.

Five fathers, each with a son in the troop. Every registered man in Trail Life USA is background checked and youth-protection trained before he stands in a room with your boy.

05

What it costs

We try to keep this simple and cheap. There are two pieces, and neither one is a surprise.

National membership goes to Trail Life USA, for your son and for you. Those rates are set nationally and published on their FAQ page.

Troop dues stay right here with FL-0202 and pay for badges, supplies, and the outings. The amount changes a little year to year, so ask us and we will tell you exactly what this year looks like.

For gear, all we ask is a hat and a shirt for each of you. That is it.

No boy has been turned away over money.

06

Drop us a line

This goes straight to two men on the board. We answer every one, usually the same week. We do not add you to a list and we do not pass your details to anyone.

You can also find us through Trail Life USA — search zip code 32303 on their Find a Troop page.

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13–14  ·  ESV
